Devotional – 26 ‘An afternoon in Brooklyn’

Chapter – 26 ‘An afternoon in Brooklyn’

It was Sunday, the family were all together. Valentine and Rebekah pulled on their jackets to take a walk. The sun was shining but the air was brisk as they walked. Rebekah asked as they rounded the first corner, “Do you think Mar’yam will be all right?” Valentine told her that he thought so if we can talk with her when she needs us.

They were gone for an hour before they rounded the corner a minute from the house. Mar’yam was on the steps watching them come toward her. She looked at Rebekah and asked, “Do you have time for a talk?” Rebekah smiled and responded, “Anytime you need me just ask.”

Later as the women were preparing the evening meal, the doorbell rang. Jesse pointed at Yosef and then asked him to get the door since he was closest.

Yosef opened the door and standing before him was Reuben, his older brother. Yosef lunged at him with both arms surrounding his brother. “Wow, great to see you,” he exclaimed!

The other men heard the sudden outcry and looked toward the door. Seconds later the family scientist walked into the room. Taller than the other family members, most people would not associate Reuben as a Gorsech; he was six-foot-seven and weighed slightly less than two-hundred pounds. He was the ultimate scholar; his IQ was in the 170’s and he had a photo memory. He had graduated MIT when only nineteen and had continued through various other scientific studies.

Reuben was asked several questions on what he had been doing the last three years; that was how long since any of them had actually seen him. He told them he was on a group project trying to put in practice the Einstein theory of Relativity. “I’m sure you all know that Einstein, through calculations, proved the universe is expanding.” They all smiled to themselves, at Reuben’s comment, and he kept right on talking, The 1st law of thermodynamics goes into great detail that the universe has a finite [limited] amount of energy. The 2nd law states that the universe is running out of this usable energy.” He paused and chuckled, then continued, “When it is gone the universe collapses; it does not stay as is.” He told them that he had read his old Hebrew Bible looking for a sign from God as he was continuing to work on the project.

Reuben looked directly at Yosef and, commented “Do you know where I found the Word from God explaining this mystery? It was in the Christian bible. It was in 2 Peter, Chapter 3. Amazing! I read the chapter a dozen times before I could stop thinking about it.” Yosef opened his satchel and pulled his bible out; he read the chapter aloud; he closed his bible and looked at his older brother and spoke, “Fascinating how science and the truths of God’s word blend together. Check the book of Hebrews 1:10-12 & Col. 1:15-17.Reuben reached for the book.

It had been a great five days in Brooklyn but Valentine was now driving toward the farm in Pennsylvania. Rebekah would spend another week with her family prior to flying to Pennsylvania. Yosef and Leah would spend three more days; then travel back to Tel Aviv. Mar’yam was also going to spend another week and then make some life choices of where she would live; maybe she would stay where she was at or maybe back in Brooklyn near her mom and family.                           [Does Gods Word and Science blend?]

A Question – When scientist say “Black Hole”; is it a star that has lost energy and collapsed?

Gen. 1:6-9, God spoke creation into being. “The big BANG theory as the secular scientific world uses.” The initial force and power of God’s voice is still expanding our Universe… [Paraphrase]

The Coming Day of the Lord

2 Peter 3:1-18,   Know this first of all, that in the last day’s mockers will come with their mocking, following after their own lusts, and saying, “Where is the promise of His coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all continues just as it was from the beginning of creation.” For when they maintain this, it escapes their notice that by the word of God [voice of God] the heavens existed long ago and the earth was formed out of water and by water, through which the world at that time was destroyed, being flooded with water. But by His word the present heavens and earth are being reserved for fire, kept for the day-of-judgment and destruction of ungodly men. But do not let this one fact escape your notice, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day. The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.

A New Heaven and Earth

10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up. 11 Since all these things are to be destroyed in this way, what sort of people ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, 12 looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be destroyed by burning, and the elements will melt with intense heat! 13 But according to His promise we are looking for new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness dwells. 14 Therefore, beloved, since you look for these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, spotless and blameless, 15 and regard the patience of our Lord as salvation; just as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given him, wrote to you, 16 as also in all his letters, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which the untaught and unstable distort, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures, to their own destruction. 17 You therefore, beloved, knowing this beforehand, be on your guard so that you are not carried away by the error of unprincipled men and fall from your own steadfastness, 18 but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus. To Him be the glory, both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.

Hebrews 1:10-12,  And, “You, Lord, in the beginning laid the foundation of the earth,
And the heavens are the works of Your hands; 11 They will perish, but You remain;
And they all will become old like a garment, 12 And like a mantle You will roll them up;
Like a garment they will also be changed….”

Colossians 1:16-17, For by Him all things were createdboth in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him. 17 He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.

“IF you love someone tell them about Jesus.”
