Bible Study-8 ‘Angels – Satan – Hell’

BS-8 the Fallen Angel; Satan – Hell’

Introduction

Like each of the Bible Studies, they will have a topic to study. This study has a mixture.

[Satan & Hell.]

Fallen Angel [Satan – Adversary or Accuser] …..[pg. 2547 in my study bible] are a list of names describing Satan.

Evil appears early in the Bible as the SERPANT; it’s in the book of Genesis 3:1-5 (KJV)

Now the serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the gardenBut of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. And the serpent said unto the woman, ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. [A deceitful half-truth; her eyes were opened but she would die.]

He is a fallen angel mentioned as Lucifer in the book of Isaiah 14:12. (KJV) –

12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! 13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: 14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. 15 Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.

In the book of Job, Satan had access of the heavens Job 1:6-7, 12

6 Now there was a day when the sons of God [probably Angels] came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan came also among them. And the Lord said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the Lord, and said, from going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it… 12 And the Lord said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thine hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of the Lord God. [It was like God was having a heavenly Staff Meeting.]

Jesus was tempted by Satan for 40 days Mark 1:12

In those days Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. 10 Immediately coming up out of the water, He saw the heavens opening, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon Him; 11 and a voice came out of the heavens: “You are My beloved Son, in You I am well-pleased.” 12 Immediately the Spirit *impelled Him to go out into the wilderness.13 And He was in the wilderness forty days being tempted by Satan; and He was with the wild beasts, and the angels were ministering to Him.

Satan cast out of heaven Rev. 12:11 (NASV)

And there was war in heaven, Michael and his angels waging war with the dragon. The dragon and his angels waged war, and they were not strong enough, and there was no longer a place found for them in heaven. And the great dragon was thrown down, the serpent of old who is called the devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels [now known as demons] were thrown down with him.

Did 1/3 of the Angels [followers of Lucifer] get cast out of heaven?

Then another sign appeared in heaven: and behold, a great red dragon having seven heads and ten horns, and on his heads were seven diadems. And his tail *swept away third of the stars of heaven and threw them to the earth. And the dragon stood before the woman who was about to give birth, so that when she gave birth he might devour her child.

Satan fell to earth as lightning Luke 10:18-20

18 And He [Jesus] said to them, “I was watching Satan fall from heaven like lightning.”

Is scripture God breathed?                                     [2 Peter 1:20] = Yes

Do mortals understand ALL of scripture?           Isiah 55:8-9 = No, there are some mysteries.

Hell

Is Hell an actual place?

Matthew 5:22 – But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother shall be guilty before the court; and whoever says to his brother, ‘You good-for-nothing,’ shall be guilty before the supreme court; and whoever says, ‘You fool,’ shall be guilty enough to go into the fiery hell.

Matthew 23:33 – You serpents, you brood of vipers, how will you escape the sentence of hell?

2 Peter 2:4 – For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but cast them into hell and committed them to pits of darkness, reserved for judgment;

HellThe final eternal abode of the unrighteous; where they will suffer eternal punishment.

  • Sheol and Hades are used at times to define the place where the dead go.

Note – The place the unsaved dead go to wait for judgement.

  • Sheol = tomb – 37:35 [Note-possibly where the body is buried]

Satan is eventually cast into Hell – [The lake of Fire]

Revelation 20:7-10, – When Judgement of the Gentiles [Matthew 25:41] – “Depart from me,” the Lord will say to who?

ANS. To those on his left; not the sheep but the goats [the unsaved]

  • Who was Hell prepared for? – Matthew 25:41
  • Who won’t be in Hell? – Revelation 21:27 20:11-15…….
  • ONLY the SAVED.

What do you think?

…. Just like many things in life; we all make choices from birth to death. Sometimes by not making a choice, it becomes a default. When we go against what the majority may think or do; we make the choice to be different. Is there something wrong with being different? Two-thousand years ago, Christ and the early disciples were different; they believed differently and they were thrown in prison, beaten, and eventually died as martyrs for what they believed. I believe the scriptures tell the story of how the Lord wants mankind to live. How about you?
